Over 13 Honor Killings in Two Months in Palestine

By Kawther Salam • Mar 11th, 2010 • Category: Kawther's Choice

Seven women were killed in the Palestinian territories because of "honor killings” in the first month of the year 2010. These news were released by Palestinian human rights organizations interested in women's issues, but according to my sources, this statistic was falsified and the real number of women who were murdered, [...]

"O wad some Power the giftie gie us
To see oursels as others see us!"
A few weeks ago, on the annual Robert Burns Night, these immortal lines from 1786 were being recited all over the world, but probably not in Palestine. The leadership there aren't blessed with the gift of seeing themselves as the [...]

"I was beaten savagely without knowing the reason" A Bidya man tells his story to Khalid Amayreh

Khalid Amayreh in the West Bank 10 December, 2009
Despite repeated assurances from the Palestinian Authority (PA) that torture has been outlawed in PA interrogation and incarceration facilities, stories of physical and psychological abuse continue to surface in the West Bank. This raises serious questions about the credibility of undertakings made by the PA to local [...]

Ayman Nijim – A Policy Paper on the Internal Palestinian Peace Plague

By Guest Post • Nov 22nd, 2009 • Category: Documents, Features, Israel, Newswire, Palestine, Religion, Somoud: Arab Voices of Resistance, War

The speculation upon the destiny of the Palestinian factions and the hope of a unified geographical Palestine (West Bank and the Gaza Strip), in this period, may seem spontaneous and easy, according to the facts of life in the Palestinian territories. But this is the challenging situation – Hamas governs the Gaza Strip and Fatah [...]

Israel Arrests Palestinian Security Forces

By Kawther Salam • Nov 22nd, 2009 • Category: Kawther's Choice

The Palestinian Authority “PA” covered up the news that on last Friday 20 November 2009, the Israelis arrested five senior Palestinian intelligence officers near the town of Salfit in the north of the West Bank which is under it’s power, among them the regional intelligence commander for Salfit, Mohammad Abdel Hamid. The Palestinian Authority also [...]

Abbas admits failure of the peace process

By Khalid Amayreh • Nov 6th, 2009 • Category: Israel, Khalid Amayreh, Palestine, Zionism

It is hard to think how Abbas can redeem and rectify some of his blunders. Some of his sins, such as the security coordination with Israel, can never be forgiven.

But Abbas can still embark on some daring steps to salvage things before it is too late.

At the top of these steps should be the orderly dismantling of the Palestinian Authority under whose rubric the national Palestinian cause is being liquidated.

Failure to do so, under whatever pretexts and excuses, would only mean legitimizing the colonial Israeli scheme and capitulating to the status quo.

Let us get rid of the big lie and confront ourselves with the all too-clear fact that the colonialist Zionist occupation of our country never really receded and that the Oslo Agreement was a deception from A to Z. We must tell our people that the PA is not a phase toward liberation from Zionist tyranny, as we have been told, but is rather an instrument for the liquidation of the Palestinian cause.

Palestine: Elections Doomed to Fail Under Division

By Khalid Amayreh • Oct 29th, 2009 • Category: Israel, Khalid Amayreh, Newswire, Palestine, Religion, Resistance, Zionism

Let us suppose for the sake of argument that Hamas would win the elections, even by a narrow margin. Would Fatah then cede power to the victorious party? Would the United States and Britain and Israel's Western allies come to terms with the results? Would Israel recognize Hamas as the true representative of the Palestinian people? Would the American-trained PA security forces agree to be answerable to the new government?

Obviously, the answer for all these crucial questions is absolutely "No".

Palestinian Protester to Blair: You are a Terrorist

By Kawther Salam • Oct 23rd, 2009 • Category: Kawther's Choice

“You are a terrorist, you are not welcome in the land of Palestine”. A Palestinian from the Hamdan family shouted these words in the face of Tony Blair, Quartet Representative for “Peace” in the Middle East, when he arrived at the Iron Cage at the entrance of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. A bodyguard of [...]

New US plan to "resolve conflict in Middle East" asks Palestinians to sanction occupation

By Guest Post • Aug 21st, 2009 • Category: Analysis, Counter-terrorism, No thanks!, Documents, Israel, Nakba and Right of Return, Newswire, Palestine, Resistance, Zionism

Ramallah / PNN – A new “plan for peace” is coming out of Washington that many consider to be disturbing at best. It includes keeping major Israeli settlement blocs in the West Bank.
The plan keeps the Israelis as occupiers, but with a few twists like in Oslo, such as political prisoners should be released. It [...]
