Marcy Newman – Entry Denied…

By Mary Rizzo • Mar 19th, 2010 • Category: Biography, Israel, Mary's Choice, Newswire, Palestine, Zionism

I know that there is a game at the bridge. That one is supposed to be polite, sometimes laugh or smile. I don't know how to do that with murderers and thieves and I don't know that I want to learn how to do that. The anger that I feel when I see that flag symbolic only of a history of massacres and massive land theft at the border makes me irate. Perhaps it would have enabled me to see my friends. But it is also not clear that this is not related to my work with ISM in the past (including a day in jail for protesting in Bil'in) or my work with the BDS movement that they saw online, although they did not question me about that yesterday. In any case, if I never have to hear their language or see their flag again it will not be too soon. Although I don't think it has hit me yet what this means, on some level it is an honor to be denied entry because of my failure to submit to the rules of the colonist.

Please Help Little Amal from Gaza!

By Guest Post • Mar 19th, 2010 • Category: Action Alert, Biography, Ideas and Projects, Israel, Newswire, Palestine, War

WRITTEN BY AVIGAIL ABARBANEL: All the children of Gaza need help; all the people of Gaza need help. I would like to help everyone and the way to do this is to do everything possible to end the siege, open the borders and ultimately end the occupation of the Palestinian people. It is unacceptable that people should live the way the people in Gaza do. Jewish Israel cannot be trusted to end this nightmare out of the goodness of its heart. Israel is going very fast down the slippery slope of war crimes and human rights violations. Despite its relentless protest and cries of ‘poor me’, Jewish Israel is a morally bankrupt state that is rapidly losing the legitimacy it should never have had in the first place.

Mazin Qumsiyeh – Back in Palestine

By Guest Post • Mar 12th, 2010 • Category: Arabian Coffee House, Biography, Culture and Heritage, Israel, Newswire, Palestine, Somoud: Arab Voices of Resistance

It was hard to say goodbye to my wife and friends in the US.  The last night was very meaningful as we were in New York seeing the performance of Najla Said, daughter of my friend and mentor, the late Professor Edward Said (for an earlier statement from Najla, see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEMrmRCbvA0 ). I cried while she [...]

Khalid Amayreh interviewed by Silvia Cattori

By Khalid Amayreh • Mar 10th, 2010 • Category: Biography, Interviews, Khalid Amayreh, Newswire, Palestine, Somoud: Arab Voices of Resistance, Zionism

Khalid Amayreh (*) is a journalist who lives in Hebron, a city brutalized and bloodied daily by armed Jewish settlers who are driving the authentic inhabitants by force. He is what might be called a true Palestinian; a man of integrity who was never seduced by financial rewards and prestige; a man standing who has [...]

By Guest Post • Mar 6th, 2010 • Category: Arabian Coffee House, Biography, Israel, Newswire, Palestine, Somoud: Arab Voices of Resistance, Zionism

The following eleven voices from different countries show views on Palestine after the breakdown of Zionism, written in 2030, three years after the State of Israel had collapsed.

Hail to the Prince: Obama, the paradigmatic Machiavellian Leader

By Mary Rizzo • Mar 4th, 2010 • Category: Analysis, Biography, Education, Hasbara Deconstruction Site, Newswire, War

A prince never lacks legitimate reasons to break his promise.
Nicolò Machiavelli

WRITTEN BY MARY RIZZO
Obama, before he actually “did” anything, had a reputation. And, indeed, reputation – what others think you are, and not what you actually are – is a crucial factor in a public figure. A political leader, while marketed, literally, in order to [...]

Khalid Amayreh – The Musa’ab Yousuf Story: a classic example of Israeli disinformation

By Khalid Amayreh • Mar 1st, 2010 • Category: Analysis, Biography, Israel, Khalid Amayreh, Newswire, Palestine, Zionism

In addition to its protracted war of terror against the Palestinian people, Israel has long waged an unrelenting campaign of psychological warfare against the Palestinian will, aimed at debilitating the domestic front across the occupied territories. The Israeli media, which often operates in sync with the Israeli occupation army and intelligence agencies, readily and routinely [...]

Ramzy Baroud – Challenging History: Why the Oppressed Must Tell Their Own Story

By Ramzy Baroud • Feb 26th, 2010 • Category: Analysis, Biography, Culture and Heritage, Features, Israel, Newswire, Palestine, Somoud: Arab Voices of Resistance

When American historian Howard Zinn passed away recently, he left behind a legacy that redefined our relationship to history altogether.
Professor Zinn dared to challenge the way history was told and written. In fact he went as far as to defy the conventional construction of historical discourses through the pen of victor or of elites who [...]

Doc Jazz: "Independence cannot be given to you"

By Guest Post • Feb 22nd, 2010 • Category: Biography, Culture and Heritage, Features, Interviews, Music, Poetry, Events, Newswire, Palestine, Resistance, Somoud: Arab Voices of Resistance, Uprooted Palestinians' Testimonies

Interview with Palestinian Musician (and Surgeon) Doc Jazz
"I want the people to believe in themselves again, in the same spirit as that of the first Intifada that started in 1987. They seem to be increasingly depending on others, and leaving their fate to be decided by others than themselves. But my message to them is: independence cannot be given to you, it can only start by acting independently. Otherwise you are only on the road to a new 'dependence'. This is the motto of my 'come-back'. And I hope that in some way or other, my music relays that message."
