Petition! Civil Rights for Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon
By Guest Post • Jan 22nd, 2010 at 17:03 • Category: Nakba and Right of Return, Newswire, Palestine, Petitions, Resistance
Please sign and circulate this petition! It involves an innovative twinning intiative. Each signer will be twinned with a person living in a Palestinian refugee camp located in Lebanon. The number of signers required to secure a personal twinning with each refugee is 433,000. Express your views to those who govern Lebanon and to the persons living in refugee camps. Civil rights should not be denied to any refugees!
To: The Cabinet and Parliament of Lebanon;
Secondary only to ending the siege of Gaza and achieving Statehood, the enactment of the basic civil right to work and to own a home for the hundreds of thousands of Palestinian Refugees living in squalor in Lebanon is perhaps the most critical and immediately achievable goal of the Palestinian resistance and the ideals enshrined in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Friends of Palestine and supporters of basic civil rights, wherever they live, can help this happen without violence or martyrs by signing and distributing the Online Petition and by twinning with a Palestinian Refugee in Lebanon.
The Palestine Civil Rights Campaign-Lebanon and the Sabra Shatila Foundation Beirut, Lebanon-Washington DC.
We the undersigned from many countries, mindful of the urgent need for equal human rights for our Palestinian Refugee sisters and brothers in Lebanon in their Civil, Political, Social and Economic dimensions, herewith signify our solidarity with Lebanon as this great country nobly corrects six decades of injustices by enacting civil rights legislation for her guests from Palestine.
Affixing my name to this petition expresses my wish to personally "twin" in solidarity with one of Lebanon's Palestinian refugees as they and their Lebanese hosts continue to work and prepare for their Return.
Sincerely, (signed)

It is high time that those forgotten Palestinian refugees, has their day and their misery alleviated, and their suffering stopped by being treated like the human beings that they are, not like animals. The Palestinian people are proud people that deserve up most respect and love…
I sympathize with the hardships Palestinian refugees in Lebanon has gone through for decades. However, there is no short cut to solve their problems. Lebanon is not a rich country to look after such a great number of refugee while 28% of its own population live under poverty line. Furthermore, giving Lebanese citizenship to 400,000 Palestinian refugees will be a great bonus for Israel – because that way these refugees would loose their lawful right to return to their homes in Israel.
During his recent visit to Paris – Lebanon's prime minister, Saad Hariri, told French premier and Jewish foreign minister: “we want a peace that allows Arabs to recover their land in the Shebaa Farms, the Ghajar Hills and the Golan Heights, as well as a Palestinian state that guarantees the refugees’ (forced to live in Lebanese refugee camps and other lands) right to return”.

How can we expect any thing good to come out of a PLO leadership that failed and never cared to open an investigations or a board of inquiry into the mass murder of thousands of Palestinians in Sabra & Shatilla and in Tel-Za'ater. It is ironic only Israel opened a formal investigation, not Lebanon whose forces did the killings, not Syria that sponsored a killer and a murder as a minister in Lebanon, certainly not Arafat & Company. The only way for the Palestinians in Lebanon to organize and sue for civil rights similar to the Blacks in the US is to have a leadership that is free and independent of the PLO, Fatah or Hamas since these organizations have their own self serving agenda. We will not be surprised if the present leadership of Abbas & Company already signed a deal with Israel and the US to resettle the Palestinians in Lebanon as part of the overall "give away settlement" with Israel. look out for the bank accounts of Lebanese and Palestinian officials. The deal is in the making, and the losers are those who waited 60 years to return home.
