Iqbal is an amazing soul we have touched on personal level that others most do not, as she has with you Mary. I am not a mother but a proud member of Palestine Mothers, and Iqbal's work as well as the contributions of all the members. It is like a home away from home. I wish I could dedicate more to Palestine and Palestine mothers but as Iqbal knows I have my own cause & can't help others until I get help myself. I still manage some videos and the odd blog.I also admire you very much Mary Rizzo.

Namaste

I consider myself very lucky indeed to have joined Palestinian Mothers. I take off my hat to the names mentioned in the above article and in all sincerity pray that mother earth will not hug Iqbal or Mary for a very, very long time to come. We need them. Palestine needs them and needs all those who devote so much time to our just cause.

Thanks Jade and thanks Al Khansa! I think that I've learned so much from the other members of PM as well, and this is another thing that makes it valuable.

I remember our discussion on the Visit Palestine poster. Having the possibility to delve into that question was something that was very valuable for me and I am glad you brought that discussion up. This is the beauty of PM, that you never know what you will find and it stimulates to investigate more material.

Also, having a place to freely air our thoughts is important. I have always believed that we need to constantly work on our discourse, on our ways of interpreting and presenting things, and the opportunities to do that are valuable. Additionally, knowing other activists as people, as people with private lives, is important. In street activism, you march or sit at a table for a day with someone, and you repeat the same slogans or you just end up defending yourself in a screaming match against hecklers. It can be depressing, and you don't know anything about what the person next to you thinks, at the most you pass a day together frustrated. They often return to being anoymous people and this is so strange! For some reason, internet has indeed allowed us to cross borders and to get to know others. It would seem the opposite from what is normal, buf for some reason, it can be more suitable towards human interaction.

You are right about the sense of family on PM. This itself is something that I find miraculous, and I have had phone conversations, been sent presents and become part of an extended family that really makes my heart rejoice. It is a miracle.

Mashallah two of my favorite Palestinian mothers in the same article , this is a real treat...:-)
Palestinian mothers is like our Palestinian home on the internet. For women, men and we even have children.PM is a family, one can almost smell the coffee and the cooking as one comes in the front door..
I learnt to cut my teeth as an activist for Palestine at PM, and the lessons i learned from Iqbal and Mary are invaluable...
Through Palestinianmothers I found two of my other favorite Palestinian sites.....Palestinian Think Tank and Sabah...:-)

Iqbal's work and website has proven to be of great importance in telling those stories that have been suppressed for too long by mainstream media sources. She has shown us, 'Third World People' an easy way that ordinary people can get their stories out, lead in setting the news agenda and share urgent information for the sake of upliftment of the oppressed and besieged people. As a member of the Palestinian mothers network I have learnt a great deal from her work and we have embedded Iqbal's site into ours, thus extending the reach, as a way of connecting up and relating the many struggles that need our solidarity and a greater level of global coordination. Thank You Iqbal, Long Live the Mothers of Palestine.
