Sometimes the answer is not the one that is most just, but the one that is executable. It would be pompous of me to say that I know what a Palestinian feels; I just put my two healthy and well-fed kids on the school bus to enjoy a safe and productive day at our well-run public school. Not a worry of bombs falling on their heads. However, I have empathy and I back up my thoughts with action by trying to expose zionism in the Christian community and redirecting mislead Christians back to the true teachings of Christ. When I watched Obama's speech yesterday, I was looking for clues and I found plenty to make the Israeli government shudder. To paraphrase his words, the US will be a friend to EACH nation. The emphasis he put on the word each was a clear messege the we will no longer have unwavering and blind allegience to Israel. We will watch this administration closely; while I have faith in this new government, we were terribly mistaken in our judgement of the last - we did not see the devil in our midst and millions of people throughout the world have paid the price for our ignorance. Hamas, like Malcolm X, is morally right, but are they the best choice for the people of Palestine? Palestinians need a counter-balance to Hamas, leaders who have the Palestinian suffering in their hearts and are not just puppets of the Israeli/US government. That person isn't Abbas, but a moderate player needs to come onto the scene soon to lead the Palestinians to a better future - they need an MLK. If the walls of separation in Israel are taken down and Palestinians are afforded equality and justice, we will eventually see a Palestinian majority in government. Then, the country will belong to the Palestinians. Jews can either stay or leave - I bet many will choose to leave - and let us pray that the Palestinian people will be kinder and more just to the Jews than Jews have been to the people of Palestine. It was not an easy road and it took several decades of work, but just look at where we are today - a work in progress, but a beautiful day for lovers of freedom.
